TLDR Early diagnosis and treatment can stop hair loss and prevent scalp damage in pseudopelade of Brocq.
The document presents a clinical case of a 46-year-old female patient diagnosed with pseudopelade of Brocq, a form of scarring alopecia. The patient experienced hair loss over 12 months, with no associated symptoms except occasional mild burning. Examination revealed irregularly shaped hair loss areas on the scalp, with smooth, atrophic skin and no signs of inflammation. Trichoscopy showed absence of follicular openings and smooth white areas. Treatment included a peripheral vasodilator, B vitamins, a topical corticosteroid lotion, and a sensitive scalp shampoo. After 3 weeks, hair loss ceased, and no new lesions appeared, with positive clinical progress noted over the following 4 weeks. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent atrophy and manage the condition effectively.
