TLDR Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) helps in healing wounds and regenerating tissue, so dermatologists are using it more.
The review article "An Insight of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Role in Dermatology" discusses the benefits and applications of PRP in treating skin conditions. PRP is a plasma concentrate containing platelets from a patient's own blood, offering benefits such as safety, rapid release of growth factors, autologous preparation, and avoidance of disease transmission. While PRP has been beneficial in orthopedic and maxillofacial injury repair treatments, it has also proven useful in dermatology. The authors conducted a literature review from January 1997 to November 2021 using PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. The conclusion of the review indicates that PRP, with its higher concentrations of platelets and growth factors, aids in wound healing and tissue regeneration, leading to an increase in its use by dermatologists.
