TLDR PRP shows promise for improving hair growth in early to moderate hair loss but needs standardized methods for consistent results.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is highlighted as a promising regenerative therapy for androgenetic alopecia (AGA), particularly in early to moderate stages of the condition. The review analyzed studies from 2013 to 2025, finding that most controlled studies report significant improvements in hair density, hair shaft thickness, and photographic scores after PRP treatment. Despite these positive outcomes, the variability in PRP preparation and application methods limits the comparability of results across studies. PRP is noted for its favorable safety profile with minimal adverse events. The review concludes that standardization of PRP preparation techniques and the conduct of long-term, large-scale randomized trials are necessary to establish definitive treatment guidelines.
