TLDR Prostate size varies by ethnic group, age, residence, and blood glucose, but not by body measurements or fat.
This study investigated the relationship between prostate volume and anthropometric variables among different ethnic groups in South-Kivu, DR Congo, involving 979 male subjects aged 40 and above. The results showed significant differences in prostate volume among ethnic groups, with the Lega group having the largest median prostate size and the Havu group the smallest. An enlarged prostate was most prevalent in Lega men (91%) and least in Havu men (11%). Prostate volume was significantly associated with age, ethnic group, residence, and fasting blood glucose, but not with anthropometric parameters or body fat composition. The study suggested that genetic determinants and cellular composition might influence prostate size, warranting further research.
