TLDR Propolis was effective in treating ringworm and other skin conditions in dogs.
A decade ago, a study demonstrated the effectiveness of propolis, a natural compound produced by bees, in treating dermatophytosis (ringworm) in three dogs. The dogs were treated with a propolis ointment and a soap containing propolis for 3-8 weeks, resulting in the remission of all lesions and hair growth in the affected areas. The study also found propolis effective in treating various skin conditions in humans, including alopecia, and oral diseases in HIV-positive patients. In veterinary medicine, it was used to treat fungal otitis in dogs, with 71% of the 38 dogs treated showing satisfactory results. However, the use of propolis for bovine dermatophytosis was deemed impractical due to high production costs.
