TLDR Tioconazole cream is highly effective and easy to use for treating sheep dermatophytosis.
The study on sheep dermatophytosis in Egypt found a 47.6% infection rate among 103 sheep, with higher rates in males under 6 months and during winter. It identified five dermatophyte species, with Microsporum canis being the most common. Risk factors included age, season, and poor hygiene. A therapeutic trial on 24 infected sheep showed that tioconazole cream and fluconazole capsules were effective, with tioconazole achieving a 100% cure rate and hair regrowth within 6-8 weeks. Clotrimazole spray was less effective, taking 9-10 weeks. The study highlights tioconazole cream as a practical and cost-efficient treatment to control the spread of infection.
