TLDR Controlled release of VEGF in a collagen hydrogel boosts hair growth in mice.
The study investigated the effect of controlled release of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on hair follicle growth in mice. VEGF was incorporated into a biodegradable collagen hydrogel for controlled release and compared to free VEGF injection. Results showed that the collagen hydrogel with 2 μg of VEGF significantly enhanced hair follicle growth, skin darkness, and hair shaft length compared to free VEGF. The controlled release from the hydrogel promoted cell proliferation around hair follicles more effectively, indicating that this method was more beneficial for hair growth than free VEGF administration.
