TLDR A man's severe skin reaction from cancer treatment improved with early diagnosis and proper medication.
A 64-year-old man with advanced colorectal cancer experienced a severe skin reaction known as PRIDE syndrome (characterized by a rash, abnormal hair growth, itching, and dryness) after treatment with panitumumab, an epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor. Accompanying symptoms included hypomagnesemia, hyperglycemia, and elevated glycated hemoglobin levels. The introduction of doxycycline and systemic glucocorticosteroids led to an improvement in his condition. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of cutaneous side effects from cancer therapy to enhance patient quality of life and allow the continuation of cancer treatment.
