TLDR Using superficial temporal fascia helps prevent Frey syndrome after parotid surgery.
The study assessed the use of superficial temporal fascia (STF) to prevent Frey syndrome (FS) after superficial parotidectomy in 48 patients, with 25 receiving STF interpositioning and 23 not. It found that only 4% of patients with STF developed mild FS, compared to 39.1% without it. There were no cases of permanent facial palsy, and alopecia was not noticeable in the STF group. The study concluded that STF interpositioning was a safe and effective method for preventing FS.
