TLDR Preoperative finasteride can help prevent and reduce transurethral resection syndrome.
The study investigated the effect of preoperative finasteride on reducing transurethral resection syndrome (TURS) in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia undergoing transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Involving 180 patients, the study divided them into a treatment group, which received finasteride, and a control group, which did not. Results showed that the treatment group experienced lower blood loss and reduced vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in prostate tissue compared to the control group, while serum sodium levels were higher. The study concluded that preoperative finasteride could prevent and reduce the occurrence of TURS.
