TLDR Pregnancy-related stress may cause hair loss in women in their third trimester.
This study examined the link between pregnancy-specific distress and hair loss in 138 women in their third trimester. It found that 29.7% of participants reported hair loss, and those with hair loss had higher scores on the Tilburg Pregnancy Distress Scale, indicating greater distress. No significant differences were found between hair loss and laboratory parameters, suggesting distress may independently contribute to hair loss. The study recommends screening for pregnancy-specific distress in women reporting hair loss, as psychological support could alleviate distress-related symptoms and enhance maternal well-being.
