TLDR P-SLN nanoparticles effectively deliver podophyllotoxin to the skin.
The study developed podophyllotoxin-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (P-SLN) for topical delivery to treat genital warts, aiming to enhance epidermal targeting and reduce systemic absorption and skin irritation. The P-SLN were prepared using high pressure homogenization and showed a significant increase in podophyllotoxin accumulation in porcine skin, 3.48 times higher than a 0.15% tincture. P-SLN demonstrated strong localization within the epidermis, suggesting effective epidermal targeting, while T-SLN did not show similar results. This approach could potentially improve the efficacy and safety of podophyllotoxin for treating genital warts.
