TLDR Plica neuropathica can be a sign of schizophrenia and improves with antipsychotic treatment.
Plica neuropathica (PN) is a rare hair disorder characterized by sudden, irreversible hair entanglement, often linked to various factors including psychiatric conditions. This report discusses a 32-year-old woman who presented with PN and was later diagnosed with schizophrenia. Initially seeking help from dermatology, she was referred to psychiatry where antipsychotic treatment was initiated. Both her psychiatric and hair conditions improved after four weeks, underscoring the importance of recognizing PN as a potential symptom of underlying psychiatric disorders.
