TLDR Hair density is better measured by counting hairs over 40 microns thick.
The study defined the unit area trichogram in the frontal and occipital areas of 10 normal men and 10 normal women, comparing these results with 10 male and 15 female patients with androgenic alopecia. The epilation technique provided accurate data on normal hair density and hair growth phases, revealing that the number of hairs less than 40 microns in diameter per cm² was increased in individuals with androgenic alopecia. The study concluded that the number of hairs greater than 40 microns in diameter per cm² was a more meaningful measure of hair density, reflecting the amount of hair contributing to an individual's clinical appearance.
