TLDR An 18-year-old woman was diagnosed with a rare skin condition called Pityriasis rubra pilaris.
In 2018, an 18-year-old Caucasian woman was diagnosed with Pityriasis rubra pilaris, a rare inflammatory skin condition, after presenting with a two-week history of an itchy rash that started on her face and spread to her trunk and limbs. She had no systemic symptoms, an unremarkable medical history, and a family history of hypothyroidism. Physical examination showed extensive scaly erythema with some areas of normal skin, scalp scaling, and hyperkeratotic plugging of hair follicles. Additionally, she had a waxy orange keratoderma on her palms and soles, which was accompanied by painful fissuring.
