TLDR Pilonidal sinus disease is linked to more severe hidradenitis suppurativa.
A cross-sectional study of 839 patients from two Spanish hospitals found that 32.6% of those with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) also had pilonidal sinus disease (PSD). PSD was associated with an earlier onset of HS, higher disease severity, more inflammatory symptoms, and increased fistulas and perianal involvement. The time between PSD onset and HS diagnosis correlated with greater HS severity, suggesting that PSD is a common comorbidity and may help identify HS patients needing intensive treatment and monitoring.
