TLDR Higher prolactin levels in women may be linked to pilonidal sinus disease.
This cross-sectional study aimed to explore the relationship between serum hormones and pilonidal sinus disease by measuring various hormone levels in 39 patients with the condition and comparing them to 39 healthy volunteers. The study found no significant hormonal differences in men with pilonidal sinus disease. However, it was observed that women with pilonidal sinus had significantly higher prolactin levels compared to the control group, suggesting that elevated serum prolactin levels in women might be associated with the development of pilonidal sinus disease.
