TLDR Surgeons should know about pilomatricoma for accurate diagnosis, even though it's rare.
Pilomatricoma (PMC) is a rare benign tumor from hair follicle matrix cells, often misdiagnosed due to varied presentations. This case report details a 17-year-old girl with PMC in the calf, confirmed by histology after imaging showed a subcutaneous mass. Surgical excision resulted in a favorable outcome with no recurrence at 3 months. PMC is the most common hair-follicle tumor, usually affecting children and adolescents, with a good prognosis after surgery. Continuous monitoring is crucial to detect potential recurrences.
