TLDR Artemisia maritima L. has strong medicinal potential, especially for treating infections and inflammation.
The study on Artemisia maritima L. (Darmana Turki) reveals its significant ethnomedicinal and therapeutic potential, particularly in traditional Indian medicine for its anthelmintic, stomachic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains santonin, effective against parasitic infections, and exhibits pharmacological activities such as anti-malarial, hepatoprotective, antimicrobial, and anti-diabetic effects. The plant's essential oils and extracts are effective in reducing fecal egg counts in nematode infections and have anti-bacterial and anti-fertility properties. Additionally, it shows cytotoxic, anti-tumor, and insecticidal effects and is used in Unani medicine for treating alopecia, inflammation, and gastrointestinal issues. Despite potential adverse effects like stomach harm and headaches in excessive doses, it is considered safe and effective, with a need for further exploration of its botanical and pharmacological aspects. Proper harvesting and extraction methods are crucial to maximize the yield of active compounds like santonin.
