TLDR Artemisia sieversiana extract may help prevent hair loss and promote hair growth.
The study investigated the effects of Artemisia sieversiana extract (ASE) on hair loss prevention and cell growth. It was found that ASE promoted cell proliferation in human hair follicle dermal papilla cells by promoting the expression of VEGF, bFGF, and EGF. ASE also decreased mRNA expression of testosterone, 5α-reductase, and aromatase-1, which are associated with hair loss. Additionally, ASE inhibited cell proliferation in inflammatory keratinocytes and significantly decreased the production of inflammatory mediators such as nitric oxide, PGE2, and TNF-α. The study concluded that ASE has potential as a treatment for hair loss due to its ability to promote cell proliferation in hair follicles, its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and its lack of toxicity in acute and repeated dose toxicity experiments.
