TLDR Vachellia nilotica and Senegalia ataxacantha have compounds useful for antifungal treatments and could boost Katsina State's economy.
The study compared the phytochemistry and anti-fungal properties of Vachellia nilotica and Senegalia ataxacantha, two economic trees in Katsina State, Nigeria. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids, glycosides, saponins, and tannins in the shoot parts of these plants. The study suggests that these trees could be valuable sources of raw materials for pharmaceutical industries, particularly for antifungal therapies, and could help generate revenue for the Katsina State Government.
