Peer Review of Secreted Frizzled-Related Protein 4 Inhibiting Hair Follicle Regeneration
January 2019
TLDR sFRP4 partially inhibits hair regeneration, but the study needs clearer data analysis and better explanation of the process.
In 2019, a study by Guo et al. investigated the inhibitory effect of Secreted Frizzled-related protein 4 (sFRP4) on hair growth. The study found that sFRP4 can inhibit, but not completely block, the hair regeneration cycle. However, the reviewers suggested improvements in the data analysis and interpretation. They recommended demonstrating that the effect of sFRP4 on hair growth is mediated via inhibition of the Wnt pathway and providing a clearer description of the effect of sFRP4 on hair growth. They also suggested that the authors resolve inconsistencies in their results and discussion sections regarding the effect of sFRP4 on the structure of hair follicles.
