TLDR Pediatric minoxidil exposures are usually not serious and can often be managed at home.
The study described pediatric minoxidil exposures reported to Texas poison centers from 2000 to 2014, involving 125 cases of children aged 5 years or younger. Most exposures (92%) were due to ingestion, were unintentional (98%), and occurred at home (94%). The majority of patients (62%) were managed on site, and 88% of the cases had non-serious outcomes. Vomiting was the most common adverse effect, occurring in 8% of cases. Treatments included dilution/irrigation/wash (53%), activated charcoal (18%), food/snack (17%), and intravenous fluids (8%). The study concluded that pediatric minoxidil exposures are generally not serious and can often be managed at home.
