TLDR Early diagnosis and personalized treatment are crucial for managing pediatric androgenetic alopecia.
This retrospective study of 133 pediatric patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) over 14 years highlights the importance of individualized treatment and early diagnosis. AGA can begin as early as age 10, with a higher prevalence in those with a family history and comorbidities like seborrheic dermatitis and acne. The study found hormonal imbalances and deficiencies in vitamin D and iron to be significant factors, particularly in females. Topical minoxidil was effective, with 91.1% of users showing positive responses. The study notes a rising prevalence of pediatric AGA, potentially linked to dietary factors and early hormonal changes, and calls for further research with larger, multicenter studies.
