TLDR Phosphodiesterase inhibitors like tadalafil can reduce cell growth in BPH caused by CD8+ T cells in low androgen conditions.
The study demonstrated that phosphodiesterase inhibitors (PDE5Is), specifically tadalafil, could reverse the proliferation of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) epithelial cells induced by CD8+ T cells in a low androgen condition. This effect was mediated through the cGMP/PKG signaling pathway. The research involved 36 TURP prostate specimens, with 18 treated with finasteride and 18 untreated. Results showed that PDE5 protein was over-expressed in the finasteride group, and tadalafil significantly reduced CCL5 levels in co-cultured BPH-1 and CD8+ T cells. The findings suggested that combining 5α-reductase inhibitors with PDE5Is might be beneficial for BPH patients.
