TLDR Women with PCOS are more likely to have depression and anxiety.
This study, involving 120 women with PCOS and 143 controls, found that women with PCOS have significantly higher rates of depression and anxiety, with odds ratios of 3.319 and 3.238, respectively. Factors such as irregular menstruation, high Ferriman-Gallwey scores, elevated serum LH levels, LH:FSH ratios, and serum total testosterone levels were associated with these mental health issues. The study concludes that depression and anxiety are more prevalent in women with PCOS, highlighting the importance of routine screening and comprehensive care involving various specialists for this population.
