Pantothenic Acid Deficiency in Baby Pigs

Wiese Ac, Lehrer Wp, Moore Pr, Pahnish Of, Hartwell Wv
TLDR Young pigs need 10-20 mg of calcium pantothenate daily to fully recover from pantothenic acid deficiency.
Pantothenic acid deficiency in young pigs leads to symptoms such as poor growth, loss of appetite, scours, dermatitis, coughing, alopecia, and more. Administering 1 mg of calcium pantothenate daily improved appetite and growth but did not significantly alleviate other symptoms due to severe depletion. However, daily supplementation of 10-20 mg of calcium pantothenate resulted in complete recovery and significant improvement in appetite and growth.
