TLDR PRP injections improve voice quality and are safe for treating vocal fold scars.
This study investigates the effects of serial platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections on vocal fold scar and sulcus, conditions that currently lack optimal treatment options. Conducted as a prospective clinical trial across two institutions, 15 patients received a total of 55 PRP injections. The study found that PRP is a safe treatment option, with no adverse effects reported. Results showed a significant improvement in patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), with an average reduction of 8.7 points in VHI-10 scores and a reduction of 18.8 points in CAPE-V scores. Additionally, 73.4% of cases showed improved voice quality post-treatment, and videostroboscopic assessments indicated enhanced mucosal wave ratings. Despite variability in individual outcomes, the study supports PRP as a promising treatment for vocal fold scarring.
