TLDR Osteopontin levels are higher in people with androgenetic alopecia and are linked to metabolic disorders.
This study evaluated the serum Osteopontin levels in 50 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) compared to 30 healthy controls. The results showed that the mean serum Osteopontin level was significantly higher in the AGA patients than in the control group. Additionally, there were significant differences in serum levels of fasting blood sugar (FBS), triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol between the two groups. The study also found that serum triglyceride levels were significantly higher in male patients compared to female patients. Furthermore, serum Osteopontin levels were positively correlated with BMI, FBS, total cholesterol, and LDL levels, suggesting a potential role of Osteopontin in the pathogenesis of metabolic disorders in AGA patients.
