Optimization of Nanostructured Lipid Carriers for Crude Fucoidan Extract from Brown Algae (Sargassum Chrysanthemum): Design and Characterization

    Image of study
TLDR The developed carrier may improve hair growth treatments using brown algae extract.
This study developed a Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC) to enhance the skin penetration of crude fucoidan extract from brown algae, aiming at hair growth applications by targeting hair follicles and dermal papilla cells. The NLC was optimized using the Simplex Lattice Design method, with monostearin, oleic acid, and Tween 80 as key components. The optimized NLC showed a particle size of 452.52 nm, a polydispersity index of 0.43, and an entrapment efficiency of 94.83%, with a zeta potential of -23.08 mV and a spherical morphology confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. The study suggests potential for improving topical fucoidan application for hair growth, but further research is needed to confirm its effectiveness in treating androgenetic alopecia.
