TLDR Women with PCOS tend to be less optimistic than those without it.
The study involved 156 women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and 117 controls, assessing their levels of dispositional optimism using the Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R). Results showed that women with PCOS had significantly lower levels of optimism, with an average LOT-R global score of 14.1 compared to 15.9 for controls (p = 0.020). The study suggests that PCOS may negatively impact optimism, which is an important factor for illness prognosis. The authors recommend incorporating optimism assessment into gynecological care and adopting a multidisciplinary approach to improve the comprehensive treatment of PCOS patients.
