TLDR Few dermatologists in Ontario accept OHIP referrals for hair loss, leading to long wait times and high fees.
A study assessing the acceptance of OHIP referrals for hair loss by dermatologists in Ontario found that only 38.38% of the 284 contacted offices accepted such referrals, while 48.59% did not, and 13.03% were unreachable. The average wait time for accepted referrals was approximately 4.5 months, and non-OHIP consultation fees ranged from $135 to $299 CAD. Some dermatologists only accepted referrals for specific conditions like alopecia areata and male androgenetic alopecia. The findings highlight concerns about accessibility to care for hair loss and suggest a need for further research into the factors affecting referral acceptance.
