TLDR Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) safely boosts fat production in skin cells and may help treat dry skin and reduce inflammation.
The study investigated the impact of oleoylethanolamide (OEA) on sebaceous lipid synthesis in human SZ95 sebocytes and found that OEA, at concentrations up to 50 µM, did not harm the cells but significantly increased lipid production through the ERK1/2 MAPK pathway. Additionally, OEA may have anti-inflammatory effects on sebocytes, which express the OEA receptor GPR119. These findings suggest that OEA could be beneficial for treating skin dryness due to its ability to enhance lipid synthesis and potentially reduce inflammation.
