TLDR Correcting vitamin D and progesterone deficiencies can significantly improve hair loss, acne, and BPH symptoms.
A study involving 6 male patients aged 21-50 with BPH, androgenic alopecia, and acne revealed vitamin D and progesterone deficiencies. Patients were treated with 20,000 IU of vitamin D and 100 mg of progesterone daily, with additional topical progesterone for acne. After 6 months, there was an 80-90% improvement in hair loss and hair growth, a significant reduction in acne severity, and improved BPH symptoms. The study suggests that correcting vitamin D and progesterone deficiencies can effectively treat these conditions, likely due to the inhibition of the 5-α-reductase enzyme by progesterone.
