TLDR Poor diet and frequent fast food increase PCOS risk.
This study examined the relationship between dietary patterns and PCOS symptoms among 350 female college students in the Thane District of Mumbai. It found that 22% of participants had PCOS or significant symptoms, with poor dietary diversity and high consumption of high-glycemic and high-fat foods significantly increasing the risk. Students with low dietary diversity scores were 2.8 times more likely to be at high risk for PCOS, and those consuming fast food more than three times a week were also at higher risk. The study highlights the need for public health initiatives to promote healthier eating habits to reduce PCOS prevalence.

A 29-year-old woman is experiencing gradual hair thinning since age 15, suspects Androgenic Alopecia, and has tried 5% minoxidil with little success. She has purchased various hair loss treatments including minoxidil, dutasteride, finasteride, and spironolactone, but is cautious about starting them due to potential interactions with her ADHD medication.
