TLDR Spondias mombin bark may help treat certain cancers but can cause side effects like increased heart rate.
This study investigated the anti-tumour properties of Spondias mombin bark using 40 wister rats divided into three groups. Group B, which received a carcinogen and S. mombin simultaneously, showed some recovery, while Group C, initially exposed to a carcinogen and later treated with S. mombin, showed significant improvement, particularly at a 50% treatment level. Symptoms like hair loss and reduced agility were alleviated. However, increased dosage led to tachycardia, a potential side effect. Histopathological analysis revealed significant differences in liver, small intestine, and kidney tissues. The bark's high crude fibre and calcium content were linked to its anti-tumour effects, suggesting S. mombin's potential role in treating certain malignancies.
