TLDR Nutrient antioxidants helped reduce prednisolone dosage and improved hair growth in alopecia areata patients.
This clinical study assessed the impact of nutrient antioxidants (vitamins A, E, and C) on reducing the dose of prednisolone in patients with alopecia areata. Over two months, the antioxidants allowed for a reduction in prednisolone dosage from 100 mg to 10 mg every other day, while also improving hair growth. The antioxidants appeared to mitigate oxidative stress and protect the immune system, thereby reducing the side effects associated with high doses of corticosteroids. The findings suggested that nutrient antioxidants could play a significant role in managing alopecia areata by lowering the necessary dose of prednisolone and its associated side effects.
