TLDR The 5% minoxidil lotion without propylene glycol is effective, well-tolerated, and cosmetically acceptable for hair loss.
The NOMINAL trial assessed a 5% minoxidil lotion without propylene glycol in 196 subjects with androgenic alopecia and female androgenic alopecia over 6 months. Conducted in 22 Italian dermatology clinics, 74% of subjects showed good or very good clinical response by week 24, confirmed by an assessor-blinded evaluation in 60 subjects. Cosmetic acceptability was high, with mean scores below 2, and 94% rated global tolerability as very good. No severe adverse effects were reported, indicating the lotion was well-tolerated and effective in real-life conditions.
