Near infrared (NIR) light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), was explored as a promising approach for treating eye diseases due to its ability to enhance metabolic and antioxidant activities through increased cytochrome oxidase and superoxide dismutase activities. The therapy was noted for potentially improving cerebral blood flow and cognitive functions without adverse effects. The review emphasized the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying NIR therapy's therapeutic effects, positioning it as a novel treatment paradigm for visual and neurological conditions.
