TLDR NB-UVB phototherapy is an effective and safe treatment for vitiligo, especially on hands and feet, and can be improved with tacrolimus.
The document discussed the use of Narrow-Band Ultraviolet B Phototherapy (NB-UVB) for treating vitiligo, particularly on the hands and feet. NB-UVB was noted for its excellent safety profile, making it suitable for children, pregnant and lactating women, and patients with hepatic and renal diseases. The treatment worked by stimulating melanocyte activity at the hair follicle, leading to repigmentation. The efficacy of NB-UVB monotherapy in both adults and children was highlighted, and it was suggested that rotational treatment combining phototherapy and medical treatments could help maintain repigmentation. Additionally, patients treated with tacrolimus showed significantly better median repigmentation.
