TLDR Nano selenium and CoQ10 helped reduce blood fat levels and insulin resistance while preventing muscle damage from statin drugs in rats.
The study investigated the role of nanoencapsulated Coenzyme Q10 (coQNPs) and selenium (SeNPs) in treating hyperlipidemia and reducing the adverse effects of simvastatin-induced myopathy. The experiment involved male Wistar albino rats treated for 112 days with various combinations of a high fat diet (HFD), simvastatin (SV), coQNPs, and SeNPs. The results showed that treatment with SV and coQNPs or SeNPs significantly restored all measured patterns, but a triple combination of SV, coQNPs, and SeNPs caused severe hepatic and muscular injury. However, treatment with SV and SeNPs showed significant improvement similar to the control group. The study concluded that coQNPs or SeNPs platforms effectively alleviated hyperlipidemia and insulin resistance, while also limiting adverse effects such as myopathy and hepatotoxicity.
