TLDR Women with PCOS in Nigeria have higher heart risk markers, needing early heart health checks.
This study compared myocardial biomarkers in 75 Nigerian women with PCOS to 75 healthy controls, revealing significantly higher levels of Myoglobin (MYO), Cardiac Troponin I (cTnI), and Creatine Kinase-MB (CK-MB) in the PCOS group. These elevated biomarkers suggest chronic, subclinical myocardial injury in women with PCOS, highlighting the importance of early cardiovascular risk assessment and management in this population. The findings emphasize the need for targeted healthcare strategies for Nigerian women with PCOS to mitigate potential cardiovascular complications.
