TLDR Multivitamins can help hair growth and health, especially if you have nutritional deficiencies, but should be used carefully.
This literature review examines the role of multivitamins in hair growth and health, highlighting that hair health is influenced by genetic, hormonal, environmental, and nutritional factors. The review includes recent scientific articles, randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. It emphasizes that macronutrients like proteins and essential fatty acids are crucial for keratinization and follicular integrity, while micronutrients such as B-complex vitamins, vitamins D, A, C, and E, and minerals like zinc, iron, and selenium serve as metabolic cofactors and antioxidants. Clinical evidence suggests that multivitamin supplementation can improve hair density and quality in individuals with suboptimal nutritional status, though excessive intake of vitamin A and selenium may lead to alopecia. The review concludes that multivitamins are a promising adjunct therapy for supporting hair growth and health, particularly in those with nutritional deficiencies, but their use should be rational and evidence-based to avoid toxicity.
