TLDR A multi-tiered treatment approach is crucial for managing hidradenitis suppurativa in patients with intellectual and developmental disorders.
The study highlights the effectiveness of a multi-tiered treatment approach for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in patients with intellectual and developmental disorders (IDD). A retrospective chart review of 22 patients at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Montefiore HS Center revealed that a combination of therapies, including antibiotics, anti-androgens, oral retinoids, infliximab, adalimumab, and surgery, is crucial for managing HS in this population. Despite practical challenges, the comprehensive use of these modalities is essential as the HS treatment algorithm evolves.
