TLDR A multi-tiered treatment approach is crucial for managing hidradenitis suppurativa in patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The study highlights the importance of a multi-tiered treatment approach for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). A retrospective chart review of 22 HS patients with IDD at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Montefiore HS Center revealed that despite practical challenges, a combination of daily oral antibiotics, anti-androgen therapies, oral retinoids, infliximab, adalimumab, and surgery are crucial in managing HS in this population. The findings emphasize the necessity of utilizing a comprehensive range of treatment modalities to effectively address HS in patients with IDD.
