TLDR Scientists identified and cloned specific keratin proteins in mouse hair.
The document described a method for isolating mouse hair follicle mRNAs, identifying two peaks of mRNA activity at 11s and 18s. The larger mRNA group encoded keratins with molecular weights of 46K, 47K, 58K, 59K, and 63K. cDNAs were synthesized from these mRNAs and cloned to create a library, which revealed five acidic and six basic mouse hair keratin clones. This research was supported by several NIH grants and other foundations.
