TLDR Monilethrix is a rare hair disorder causing beaded, fragile hair, often improving on its own over time.
Monilethrix was identified as a rare structural hair disorder characterized by beaded hair, with alternating thinning and thickening of hair shafts, resulting in lustreless, dry, rough, and fragile hair. Trichological examinations typically revealed a significant percentage of anagenic hair. Both systemic therapy with vitamins and topical treatments with desquamative ointments were found to be insufficiently effective. However, spontaneous regression of symptoms often occurred over time. The document presented five cases of familial occurrence of monilethrix.
