TLDR Trichoscopy can diagnose Netherton syndrome without pulling hairs.
The study discussed the use of hair and scalp videodermoscopy (trichoscopy) in diagnosing Netherton syndrome, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by ichthyosis, atopic manifestations, and hair shaft abnormalities. In the case of an 11-year-old female patient, trichoscopy was used to noninvasively visualize typical bamboo hairs and hairs with golf tee type endings, which are indicative of the syndrome. This method allowed for the diagnosis without the need to pull hairs, demonstrating that trichoscopy could significantly improve the diagnostic process for Netherton syndrome.
