Monilethrix Unveiled by Initial Androgenetic Alopecia

    E. Bonifazi
TLDR An 11-year-old girl with hair thinning was diagnosed with monilethrix and early androgenetic alopecia.
An 11-year-old girl exhibited hair thinning in the central parietal region, with both parents affected by androgenetic alopecia. Physical examination revealed significant hair rarefaction in the nuchal region and keratosis pilaris, particularly evident in the nuchal area. Light microscopy of her hair showed a beaded shape with alternating nodes and internodes, leading to a diagnosis of initial androgenetic alopecia in a subject with monilethrix. Her parents did not show signs of keratosis pilaris or the beaded hair alteration.
