TLDR Mycophenolate mofetil can effectively treat autoimmune hepatitis when standard drugs fail.
Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a chronic liver disease treated with corticosteroids and azathioprine, but some patients do not respond due to drug intolerance or refractory disease. Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) has been used as an alternative when azathioprine is not tolerated, although evidence for its efficacy is limited. This report described a patient with AIH who did not achieve remission with the standard regimen due to azathioprine side effects but was successfully treated with MMF and corticosteroids.
